New Haven R. R. Lapel Pins

Here are a few examples of lapel pins which were worn by New Haven Railroad employees from the collection of Marc Frattasio.

Veteran's PinThis pin was worn by members of the New England Railroad Veterans, a fraternal organization for men who had retired from the Boston & Maine, Central Vermont, Bangor & Aroostook, Canadian Pacific, Grand Trunk, Maine Central, Rutland, or New Haven railroads. This organization was founded in 1911. Note the NHRR script monogram in the pin's center.

This 'Safety-Efficiency' pin was awarded during the 1920s to New Haven Railroad employees who spotted hotboxes on moving trains, discovered broken rail, or performed similar actions which prevented accidents. The presentation of these pins was often chronicled in 'Along the Line' magazine. Safety Pin

Ten Year Safety PinThis pin was presented to New Haven Railroad operating department employees who went ten years without an accident during the 1940s. The pin is made of 14K gold with blue enamel inlay. The presentation of these pins was chronicled monthly in the New Haven's 'Blue Flag' publication.

This pin was awarded to employees during the 1940s and 1950s after 40 years of working for the New Haven Railroad. The diesel locomotive shaped pin is solid 14K gold and has a blue saphire chip mounted in its headlight.40 Year Service Pin

50 Year Service PinThis lapel pin was awarded to employees during the 1940s and 1950s after 50 years of working for the New Haven Railroad. The pin is made of solid 14K gold and features a small diamond.

The Top Hat Club pin was awarded to food service car crewmembers who were praised by customers for giving extra special service during the early to mid 1950s.Top Hat
